Auschwitz was an infamous camp in German-occupied Poland, It was known for being one of the deadliest camps with over 1.1 million deaths. It was built in the 1940s and was the largest of the Nazi concentration and death camps. In southern Poland , Auschwitz initially served as a detention center for political prisoners. It consisted of 40 extermination camps and had horrific living conditions. People there were starving, freezing and dying for no reason. For fun, the guards would kill the inmates. Mostly the camp consisted of Jews, German Communists, Socialists, Social Democrats, Roma, and Jehovah's Witnesses. They created the concentration camps because they believed these people were an inferior race that had to be exterminated.
